[The mass kidnapping incident, huh? Does that mean this guy is complimenting the way the Enforcers handled that? Seems like it.]
Is that so? Honestly, we could use all the help we can get! Verens is still being flooded with injustice that needs to be weeded out. Any member of the Enforcers will be briefed on current events, of course.
["Flooded with injustice"... Dezel is suddenly reminded of Sergei, the Captain of the Platinum Knights. Hn.]
What's your policy on holding certain members in reserve? I think you'll find what I am combined with my talents to be of great use to you in certain circumstances, but a potential detriment in others.
Well... Usually our reserve members are in the combat division. They get called to arms during times of overwhelming crisis. [Like, say, rampant Arehtei attacks.]
I wouldn't call it a talent, but I'm what's known as a seraph. I'm invisible to the entire native population of humans, as well as many Otherworlder humans. Most of them don't have enough spiritual resonance to detect me.
Even when dealing with those who can, I know a few things about stealth and evasion. If you're ever in need of someone to handle investigations in dangerous situations without being caught, you could call on me.
Exactly. In a situation like that, in and out, likely without issues. I might also be useful to you in patrol work, if just to issue reports as necessary.
Though no doubt you could see where what I am could also cause some issues... Pairing me with anyone who can't see me during combat situations could be a problem. I also wouldn't be of much use in negotiations or in representing the Enforcers.
[One wouldn't think that talking down on themselves would be good in a situation like this, but Dezel is too practical to do otherwise. He wants this man to be fully aware of the pros and cons, as well as to maintain some control over how he's utilized. He's not a gung-ho justice freak, anyway. Mostly he just wants a foot in the door so he can get access to Enforcer information.]
Ahh, I see. Yes, that's true, even our telepathy network can only do so much. [But what if Dezel constantly wears a sheet over his- No that wouldn't work. Hm.]
But... You said there's some Otherworlders who can see you, right? Provided they have enough spiritual... hocus pocus? Do you know if any of them are in the Enforcers?
Yeah. I've already worked once alongside Kor Meteor. He can see me just fine.
There may be others already part of the force who can see me, but who I've yet to make contact with. Or those I've met, but don't yet associate with the Enforcers.
Any non-human Enforcers should also be able to see and hear me.
[Mr. Meteor, huh... Funny. Bobby would've expected him to be a human too- just a human with a weird magical weapon. Then again, maybe that has to do with that spiritual resonance thing.]
Is that so...? Well, if there's ever a need for you to work in a team, we could always just partner you up with someone who can see you. There probably are more of them within the Enforcers.
[That isn't to say he'll like it, but being willing to deal with it for the sake of need is another matter entirely. The last five years of his life have taught him a fair amount on that, after all.]
That said, there's just one other thing you should probably be aware of before I attempt to apply officially...
[It's a good thing Bobby's the sort of guy who doesn't mind aloof attitudes. Or maybe he's more the sort of guy who doesn't recognize aloofness to begin with.]
[A definite good thing either way, since that sort of attitude is what most people get from Dezel.]
That I'm blind.
This is information I'm disclosing as a courtesy and as a matter of trust. It doesn't typically affect my ability to function on a daily basis and doesn't hinder me in combat, to the point where people who can see me can't tell that I'm sightless. However, I don't want this getting back to you via a third party and for it to appear that my blindness is something I've tried to actively hide from you.
Oh! No, that's...- Don't worry about something like that! If it doesn't hinder you during your duties at all, it wasn't necessary to report. That's not the same as actively hiding something, I think... [Err.]
Ah, actually, there's a standard interview questionnaire that every new candidate needs to be subjected to. There's certain kinds of information that we- [He's cut off by a loud, screeching whistle that seems to reverberate through the telepathic link. The water for his tea is boiling. He hastily reaches out to stifle the kettle.]
Aah, sorry...! Anyway, the paperwork's in my office. I'd ask you to stop by there sometime, but... [Is there even a point to having a face-to-face interview?]
If it's a typical requirement, I can stop by whether or not you can see and hear me. At the very least, I can offer you a handshake alongside answering for the questionnaire so you have proof that I'm solid and not just some disembodied voice.
